She was born in London; her estranged father Michael Stevens is notable for producing a guide to the best places to solicit prostitutes in London. Her mother is Linda Stevens.
She rose to prominence as part of the pop groupS Club 7 (later S Club), managed by Simon Fuller. Following the split of S Club, Stevens began a solo music career with singles and an album released through late 2003 and 2004. Initial sales of her debut album were not as high as expected, and was released again in July 2004 with additional tracks.
